Culture & History of the Balkans (10 days)

Day 1: Arrival

Flight from Germany to Tirana. Drive to Durres with subsequent city tour. Hotel in Durres.

Day 2: Durres - Kruje - Shkoder - Bar - Budva

After breakfast we drive to Kruje, the city of the national hero Skanderbeg. Afterwards it goes on to the northernmost city of Albania. To Shkoder. Visit of the Rozafa Fortress. Afterwards we cross the border to Montenegro and stop at Stari Bar to learn more about life in earlier centuries. In the evening we reach our hotel in Budva.

Day 3: Budva - Cetinje - Njegusi - Kotor - Perast - Budva

Drive to the old capital Cetinje. Among other things, we see the old royal palace. Afterwards we continue to the mountain village of Njegusi, where we have the opportunity to taste the famous raw ham. A unique panoramic road takes us into the fjord of Kotor - by the way, the only fjord in southern Europe. After our sightseeing tour we continue to Perast, where we board a ship and drive to the monastery island of Maria at the rock. In the evening we return to our hotel in Budva.

Day 4: Budva - Dubrovnik - Neum

Another highlight awaits us. After crossing the border to Croatia we reach Dubrovnik, the "Pearl of the Adriatic Sea". During our 2-hour guided tour we will see highlights such as the cathedral or the city wall. Afterwards leisure time to relax and soothe your soul. In the afternoon we continue to our hotel in the Bosnian coastal town of Neum.

Day 5: Neum - Mostar - Sarajevo

Drive to the city of Neum where we will see the famous bridge during our sightseeing tour. Afterwards we continue to the Bosnian capital Sarajevo for an extensive city tour. Afterwards we move into our hotel.

Day 6: Sarajevo - Tuzla - Belgrade

Before leaving Bosnia-Herzegovina we stop in the city of Tuzla. The name is derived from salt; Tuzla was the largest supplier of salt in Yugoslavia. After our tour in the old town, we continue to Serbia and reach the Serbian capital Belgrade.

Day 7: Belgrade - Skopje

In the morning we explore the Serbian capital Belgrade. We see highlights such as Kalemegdan Fortress, the shopping street Knez Miahilova and many others. After that we pass Novi Sad on our way to the Macedonian border. Shortly afterwards we reach the capital of Macedonia, Skopje. In the evening we will have a typical Macedonian dinner with music at a restaurant in the city.

Day 8: Skopje - Ohrid

In the morning we explore the Macedonian capital. We see the old town with the fortress Kale and the great bazaar as well as the new town with the Alexander Fountain and the Mother Theresa House. In the afternoon on the way to Ohrid we stop in Tetovo, where we visit the so-called "colourful" mosque. In the evening we reach our hotel in the UNESCO city Ohrid.

Day 9: Ohrid - Tirana

Today's day starts with a boat trip on Lake Ohrid. The lake is one of the oldest and deepest in the world. Afterwards we explore the UNSECO city by walking and we see highlights such as the fortress of King Samuel and the church of St. Periblebtos. In the afternoon via Elbasan to our hotel in Tirana.

Day 10: Transfer to Tirana airport

In the morning we do a city tour in the Albanian capital before the bus takes us back to Tirana airport. Return flight to Germany.
