By far the most spectacular ski resort of Turkey is the Palandöken mountain range. The snow is fantastic there. In the Rocky Mountains there is something indefinable, white, weightless, something that is called slight-champagne- powder.

The Palandöken Mountains are located in eastern Turkey around Erzurum. Anatolian plateau is rutted there. The area is well known for its "guaranteed" snow. Erzurum lies at the altitude of about 2,000 m and is surrounded by several 3000-meter mountains. With the cold temperatures that prevail in the area the mountains have mostly powder snow for wonderful ski tours. Right at the edge of the town one of the largest ski resorts in Turkey is situated that is also very popular with Turks. Innumerable mountains around the city - their height is above and below the altitude of 3,000 m - offer themselves during the winter and spring months for skiing. In spring the weather in this area is usually cold but nevertheless sunny. Since the mountains are close to Erzurum, the time of transfer is acceptable. Usually we need three-quarters of an hour to get the starting point of a ski tour. Starting points of the tours are mostly traditional Anatolian villages. The slopes have a gradient of about 25 - 30°. Due to the short time of the transfer the afternoons can be used for rest and other various activities.

Day 1 till Day 8

Arrival in Istanbul and transfer to the hotel in the old downtown. If the flight is early, there is a possibility for a half-day tour to the attractions at Sultan Ahmet  (the Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and underground cisterns). Overnight in Istanbul at a middle class hotel.

Day 2: Flight to Erzurum
Transfer to the airport for the one and a half hour flight to Erzurum. Upon arrival at the airport in Erzurum, transfer to the hotel in the city center. Depending on the time of the flight the rest of the day is at your disposal or we go for half a day to ski. (B, D)

Day 3: Ski tour to Mt Karakaya (3,169 m)
A trip of about 30 minutes brings us to the foot of Mt Karakaya. Directly from the village, at about 1,900 m the ascent starts. For the ascent at the slope of  25 ° -30 ° to the peak of 3,169 m height we need about 3-4 hours. This mountain offers mostly light powder snow. The subsequent downhill leads to the village, from where the transfer goes back to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel in the center of the city. (B, D)

Day 4: Ski tour to Mt. Egerli (3,100 m)
To the village at the foot of Mt. Egerli we drive for about 20 minutes. The ascent begins at the altitude of 1,900 m. The peak at the altitude of 3100 m we reach in about 3-4 hours. Mt. Egerli offers a particularly long downhill route with the slope of 25 ° -30 ° that leads back to the village at the foot of the mountain. From there we head back to the hotel (B, D).

Day 5: Ski tour to Mescit Tepe (3,050 m)
From the hotel we drive for an hour to Mescit Tepe. The ascent starts at 1,800 m and takes 3-4 hours. The peak is of 3,050 meters height. The slope is 25 ° -30 °. For the descend we take the same route. Transfer to the hotel for overnight (B, D).

Day 6: Ski tour to Mt Ortuzu (3,320 m)
One hour drive to Ortuzu Tepe. The ascend starts at 1,800 m and takes 4 hours before we reach the peak of 3,050 m height. The descent to the starting point on powder snow is great. Return to the hotel. (B, D)

Day 7: Ski tour to Mt Akdag (3,550 m)
The last trip goes to Mount Akdag (translated as "white mountain"). The trip to this place takes a little longer than 30 minutes. The ascend begins at the altitude of 2,000 m and takes about 3-4 hours. The peak is of 3,550 meters height. The slopes have an inclination of 25 ° -30 °. To keep in sight the white mountains we are skiing back over the wide slopes to the starting point. Return to the hotel. (B, D)
