During this week's hiking you will learn that Lycian peninsula has much more to offer than the beach and sea. The Lycian Way, a linkage of the old paths comprises a total of 509 km. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful long distance hikes in the world. You move on historic ground, since already Alexander the Great used this route for his campaigns. Enjoy the natural landscape of Olympos National Park that is characterized by the rugged mountains, dense forests, beautiful beaches and ancient sites. The highest point is Tahtali Dagi that is of 2,366 m height. Its terrific massif we keep in sight on our tours constantly. You wander through the idyllic mountain villages and enjoy good fresh air at the altitude of about 800 m. During one of the beautiful coastal walks you will come to the nesting grounds of sea turtles in a sandy bay and to the lighthouse of Gelidonia. The cultural highlights of this trip are visits to the ancient cities of Phaselis and Olympos, and to the natural phenomenon of the eternal flame at Cirali. An eventful hiking week that responds to all of the senses!
Day 1 till Day 8
Day 1:
Arrival in Antalya and transfer to the hotel. In the evening meeting with the tour guide for a detailed briefing of the hiking program. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2:
For the first hike in Göynük we drive for about 45 minutes by bus. Here we begin the hike at the foot of Goynuk Canyon. Wandering through pine forests first we cross the shoulder of the mountain and enjoy the fabulous views. Then we go down to the Canyon of Göynuk, where the river must be crossed. From there we walk uphill through pine forests and other settlements to the summer pasture of Göynük. The pasture is located at the altitude of 800 m. Another 200 meters uphill for 20 minutes we drive by the shuttle bus to our little mountain hotel in Ovacik.
Hiking time: 5.5 hours; distance: 13 km, difference in height: + 600 m/-300m
Day 3:
From Ovacik we take a forest trail up to the small mountain village of Yaylakuzdere. The journey lasts for about 30 minutes. In the village we begin our hike. On the goat paths we bypass Tahtali mountain and end up to the idyllic village of Beycik, located at the altitude of about 900 m above the sea level. Up here the temperature is pleasant and the ambience is rural. Along the way we have a magnificent view of the three islands near Tekirova. In Beycik we can stop for a bite after the walk and witness as a silent spectator the life of the village. From Beycik we drive for about 45 minutes to the hotel in Adrasan.
Hiking time: 5.5 hours; distance: 17 km, difference in height: +850 m /-900 m
Day 4:
We drive for about 30 minutes to the village of Ulupinar and start here the walk through high pine and pine forests. After 3 hours of walking we come to the eternal fire of the Chimaera that situated on a ridge at the altitude of 250m. There gas steps out from a crevice, flickering since the ancient time. We take time to admire this natural phenomenon. For lunch we stop in one of the nice restaurants in Cirali. A short, one-hour hike goes through the ruins of the ancient city of Olympos.
Duration of the trip to the hotel: 30 minutes walking time: 4, 5 hours; distance: 10 km, difference in height: +200 m / - 400 m
Day 5:
After fulfilling an adventurous hiking week we have an opportunity to relax today. We let the impressions of the past few days affect us. We enjoy the swimming day on the beach or in the pool or we take a stroll. It is also possible to enjoy a Turkish bath in Adrasan (surcharge). For very active hikers today it is possible to climb up to the summit of Tahtali of 2,366 m height (with the tour guide, extra price on-site depending on the group size). The hike is challenging and lasts for about 8 hours. It is only recommended for experienced hikers.
Day 6: Adrasan - Olympos
The walk starts in Adrasan after a 10-minute drive. First it goes through vegetable plantations and then through pine forests high above the shoulder of Mount Musa. Then it goes down near the ancient city of Olympos. The hike ends at the necropolis of the ancient city of Olympos. Then we enjoy a cool drink at Kadir's tree houses.
The journey time to the hotel: about 30 minutes, walking time: 5 hours, distance: 12 km, difference in height +600 m / -600 m.
Day 7: Gelidonia Lighthouse - The Queen's Stage
One of the most beautiful hikes during the entire route is today. We start directly from the hotel. Throughout the hike on the one side we see the steep coast of the Mediterranean Sea and on the other side - the mountains. The view of Gelidonia Lighthouse is incomparably beautiful. Mariners were afraid of this cape in the past. Many ships are sunken there, and divers are always finding spectacular treasures on the seabed. This coastal strip was once very popular with the pirates.
The trip back to the hotel: 45 min; walking time: 6 - 7 hours, distance: 20 km (depending on the road conditions), difference in height: +400 m m/-300
Day 8:
Breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport for departure or connecting program. Travel time to the airport is 1, 5 hour.
